What "down to the studs" actually means
People use the phrase loosely, so here's ours. Everything comes out — cabinets, tile, subfloor if it's soft, drywall to the framing. Then we look at what nobody's seen in forty years: the wiring, the supply lines, the drain slope, the framing around that window. We fix what needs fixing while the walls are open, because that's the only time it's cheap. Then we build it back.
It costs more than a refresh. It also means the room you're standing in ten years from now still works.
Lead times to plan around
Selections hold up more kitchen jobs than construction does. Order early.
- Semi-custom cabinets — roughly 6–12 weeks from final selections
- Custom cabinets — roughly 10–16 weeks
- Quartz and granite — templated after cabinets are set, then about 2–3 weeks to fabricate and install
- Specialty tile and imported fixtures — the usual culprits. Pick these first, not last.
